GoodBye~ Tong Tong...
My little pet Tong Tong is gone...No, it didn't die on me. I set her free...
I've had her since Dec 2004. From initially she wanted to find her way out of captivity till she called it home, I never fail to spend time looking after her. In the mornin' before work (explain the lateness for work) & late at night before I stepped into my house.
About two weeks ago, she started to become uneasy in the tank again. I figured nature is calling her & she'd finally decided to leave...so like last time, I took her out & left her on a potted plant. Hoped that she'll fly away...but again she didn't...
She kept hanging around for three days. Then on a Wednesday morning, bad news came - Our Town Council put up a notice that they will be doing fumigation for my block on Thursday. Usually, I'd bring the tank with her inside into the house, but now that she's out, I didn't want her back in again. So I told myself that I must send her away that very night when I come home.
I came home around 0030hrs in the morning, I started lookin' for her, & found her hiding behind a metal bar...
I've never seen her actin' this way. Something is botherin' her. So I looked around for the cause. Surprised as "having a strip show in Parliament house", I saw her...Tong Tong II. A younger & smaller (about 2/3 of the size) version of Tong Tong.
It's weird...just when I wanna send Tong Tong (TT) off, Tong Tong II (TT II) arrived. I was tempted to keep TT II. I put her in the tank, caught 2 moths & a fly for her supper. She took'em out fast!
Then, I took a look at TT again...still behind the bar...and I thought to myself..."I don't think it's fair to her that I'm now lookin' after TT II & she had to fight for herself in the open..." That's when a crazy idea came into my mind - "Let's keep'em both!" Deep inside, I knew it's impossible for 2 Mantises to live together. It's their nature to be a "lone huntress". Still, stubborn me wanna give it a shot. So I did a little test by placing TT in the tank & TT II outside but close enough for TT to react.
When TT II came within striking distance, TT put up a fearsome pose! Pincers by the sides, lower abdomen tilted to one side to create a massive illusion; trying to scare off TT II!
Being an inexperience "young'tis" TT II sensed nothing at all...got bored & walked away...Since I can't hav'em both, I decided to send them both away to some place better - the garden.
I sent TT II off 1st. I left her on a tree, then went back up for TT.
Much as I hate...I had to do it...I placed TT on a lilly at the other side of the garden. I couldn't tell how long...but I stayed around watching her...until she vanished into the bush...that was the last I saw of Tong Tong...
